Comments:
Showed up along the PCH at 6:20 to meet Unkle and Steve. Dark, foggy, and the water was the worst red tide of seen during these last couple of weeks of redtide. The small waves were dark with the stuff, and it was embedded in the whitewash. We stared and tried to make something of it but then headed down south to the little beachbreaks. Headed out in a my 4 month old rip curl wetsuit with the butt already falling out.

The waves were actually holding up with some good form and some long rides could be had. Others would wall out quick, but they were clean and glassy and the red tide was not as bad for some reason. For awhile I was going right until I started realizing the swell was from the south in which case I turned to the lefts. This was causing some confusion with Steve as I was always crashing into him until we swapped places and I had my fill of lefts. Stooped over, rail grabbing, flying fast down the line, followed by futile attempts at gettty barrelled. Every time popping up after getting pounded in a close out with big grin and a hoot.

One of the largest near shore pod of dolphins I've ever seen was heading south. I didn't keep count but there'd be 6 or more up for air at the same time, which must put there numbers above 18 or so I'd guess. Also had a visit from a curious sea lion, which prompted us to wonder if the Sea Lions hang out near surfers because they know we are slower than them and thus will be the first choice for the men in grey suits.
