| Why Baja? |
| by Surfer Bob |
Hawaii or Baja? Both should rank high on the list of dream surf destinations. Perhaps someone was a bit dismissive of the Baja experience when he wrote:Why would someone who can surf in Hawaii want to go to Mexico?
Surfer Bob responds...
Um, I can think of a few reasons, bwana:Not to diss Hawaii or anything (Mecca of surfing and all), but it's a big world out there and those islands are pretty small. Expand you mind, mon.
- Because it's really close to southern California and you can drive there from here.
- Because the surf there gets really good sometimes.
- Because there are 1200 miles or so of surfable coastline to explore - lots more elbow room than Hawaii.
- Because it can be much less crowded than Hawaii.
- Because folks speak Spanish there and it's a cool language.
- Because you can buy a double armload of seafood and fresh tortillas there for the cost of a tiny box of cereal at the Grocery Store on the North Shore.
- Mexico is a good place to go on a Vision Quest. (I saw God there once. She was going left. She ripped.)
- Two words: Fish Tacos.
- Because Mexico is full of Mexicans, some of the warmest, kindest, most funloving, friendly, delightful people on Earth.
Peace, Surfer Bob
