Best Surfs of 1999
by Ric Harwood
A harder task this year, I'm pleased to say. With more surfs qualifying than I've had in total for the past few years.
  1. 15 August: Stoke 7.8/10.
One several great trips with Andy M. Overhead+ at Mothers. Dawn patrol. Light winds, but still lumpy. First time at the spot I've been hunting for ages.

  2. Tuesday 28th September
    Spot: Porthcawl
    Stoke Factor: 7.5/10.
Last session with Andy M, who is now in Sydney. The surf was choppy and seemed blown out., but time was short, so we dashed in. Out the back it was much better. The swell was quite choppy, but it was obviously some short seas over the longer swell, which had reduced the mean period measured by the buoy. However the longer period swell was still there and the faces were surprisingly glassy. Waves were tricky to get into, you had to be quick off the mark when the choppyness popped one up right in front of you, but wow was it worth it! The rides were very fast, in fact I had three of the fastest rides ever, no moves, just foot to the floor down the line speeeeeed..... {8^) and peel off the end and paddle out .

  3. September sometime.
    Porthcawl.
    Stoke 8.4/10
Got lots of long lefts when everyone else was drifting and surfing right, including three of my best waves ever. Fast flying waves with total control. Felt like my board was surfing on air.
