Winter Rules!

The weekend after the winter cleanup, Fang takes a trip into San Francisco and Santa Cruz, hitting surf shops along the way and doing an equipment update.

Winter Weekend

Saturday, San Francisco. Nice little glassy overhead goin off inside the bay, hahah. Ocean Beach was cordonned off and monsterous. I went shopping for a gun. Wise has the filth Brewers for $700+. Beauties, too nice for rock n roll we know so well...

Checked out Half Moon Bay: Cowboys Rawson "guns" aint guns, just nice 7+ shapes. Aqua Culture, which normally carries heaps of Ward Coffey guns is sold out. Waves have been too good. Rather waves been too bad, big stormy gnarly human defying monster surf requiring Big Game equipment to get waves. Guns.

Went to see Jeff Clark at his new Maverick's shop but there's only his best bad 10 foot spear, not for sale. Although he's back in business with the help of Pat Rawson's templates, there's no inventory. However, the stoke in Jeff's place is so thick it makes you wanna jump off a 40 foot cliff.

Whilst there, Martha Jenkins pointed me lovingly at her husbands (Bruce, a San Fran Chronicle sports writer and hellman North Shore chronicleer) book, North Shore Chronicles, excellent psycho book, good solid winter reading, a good Christmas gift! Check their surf page.

But it didnt really get good till Sunday, when the monsters started cleaning up a bit at Pleasure Point and all the crew was eyein it learily from the cliff, in spite of the brownish foam along the coast, every last bastard spitting routinely over the cliff,
girls too, as if to say,

"I've had enuff up my nose, in my ear, over my shoulder!"

And after the worst storm of the year - decade? Na we get 34 foot swells all the time!
Sand decorates the road 20+ feet above...! but it didn't get really good till I bailed to surf Cowell's... which Jeff Clark hasn't surfed in 20 years to my dismay...and as I backed the van into Eastcliff Drive, Mr. Action Jackson gave me the biggest Moon i've ever been privileged to behold since the last time he did it 2 years ago on Westside.

Thanks, Jackson and have a Merry. Rocks, guns, and waves to y'all!
